Family Fusion began work in Cambridgeshire in January 2010. Young people are being offered a new service in Cambridge combining life skills workshops and mentoring. Family Fusion aims to improve family dynamics, develop confidence and will give 10 to 16 year olds with learning difficulties a chance to spend some quality time with their families!
As each family will have experienced very different issues, the project will be wholly driven by, and tailored to, the needs of each family.
Family Fusion is already seeing great results, with 6 young people and their carers attending a 10 week course in Sawston. The group have set their aims and chosen activities to achieve the course objective – To improve the relationship between a young person and their carer.
“It’s already producing results and a lot of fun” commented Estelle.
With friendships forming, the group have created a chill out area, competed in a Wii tournament and enjoyed a bowling trip. They are now working on ideas for future activities.
This project has funding until 2012 and further courses and events are planned for the coming months.
Contact us if you know of a 10 to 16 year old with a learning disability, with a carer/family member, who would benefit from a course.
