Next Steps TV – Cambridge City

young man, filming on a digital video cameraThe Next Steps TV project for adults with learning disabilities is an exciting project based on making films and TV shows. Next Steps TV supports people to:

  • Get confident
  • Learn new skills whilst making films and TV programmes on themes such as news, drama or cooking
  • Gain accredited qualifications
  • Get involved -  we are skilled at engagement and accessibility, and find ways to involve everyone
  • Make choices – all of our work is based on the user led model, promoting choice and empowerment
  • Join a group, develop team working skills, and make friends

Work to Success – Cambridge City

picture of the leaflet, showing people at workWork to Success is a tried and tested job coaching programme for people with autistic spectrum conditions, supporting individuals via bespoke One2One coaching to overcome the barriers to paid work, volunteering and vocational training. The programme supports people to:

  • Experience a work placement
  • Address autism related issues such as social and communication factors, and work towards managing them in a work setting via a structured goal-focused programme
  • Put together a passport to work, detailing their achievements and support needs for future employers
  • Gain skills and confidence, and gain accredited qualifications

Dreamers Bar – Huntingdon

Based at Huntingdon Youth Centre Dreamers Bar is a lively drop-in information bar providing a social hub, as well volunteering and paid work opportunities for people with learning disabilities and autistic spectrum conditions. The group took part in a learning programme and developed Dreamers Bar over 6 months, redesigning and redecorating the premises, learning about food hygiene and customer service, leading up to opening in February 2011. Dreamers provides:

  • Volunteer catering and support roles for 8 people with learning disabilities or autistic spectrum conditions
  • Paid peer coaching roles for 2 people with learning disabilities
  • Social skills training and learning opportunities for pupils at a local special school and Huntingdon Regional College
  • A place where vulnerable and sometimes isolated people can socialise and make friends
  • A place where local disabled people can access information about what is happening in their local community, and how they can get the support they need
