London Advocacy for Independence

London Advocacy for Independence LogoEnabling disabled people and their carers to have better information about, and support to take up, Direct Payments and Personal Budgets

We work in 32 London Boroughs, providing people with professional advocacy on a One2One basis.

Chris and Michelle, talking

We work with individuals around London so that people can benefit from the changes and developments that are happening in the way that they get social care.

For example, we could support someone to get a Direct Payment to employ a personal assistant of their choice.

Dancing at an LAI event

We visit or work with user led, carers’ or self advocacy groups to make sure that people understand the changes that are happening and what it means for them.

One of the ways we do this is working with self advocacy groups for people with learning disabilities.

We use fun, interactive activities and resources to support people to understand what a personal budget could mean to them.

We can also work with groups to organise events.

London Councils logoWe are funded by the London Councils.  London Councils is committed to fighting for more resources for London and getting the best possible deal for London’s 33 councils. London Councils has a website about its grants service.
