Advocacy in Wandsworth

VoiceAbility Wandsworth LogoIn the London Borough of Wandsworth, we offer:

  • Statutory Advocacy
  • Professional Community Advocacy
  • Self advocacy support

You can find out more about these services below.

Statutory Advocacy

Independent Mental Capacity Advocacy (IMCA):

We work with people who have been assessed as lacking capacity and who do not have family or friends who are appropriate to speak up for them. This work is always about decisions around serious medical treatment or changes in long term accommodation.

An IMCA can also support where there are concerns regarding Safeguarding or care reviews.

Paid Relevant Persons Representatives (IMCA DoLs):

Within this service, we would represent a person who has been deprived of their liberty after a decision has been made to do so in their best interests. We would ensure that the reasons for the deprivation are still relevant and that any measures that are put in place to support the deprivation are being carried out.

You can find out more about both our IMCA and IMCA DoLs services in our IMCA section.  This includes how to make a referral on our dedicated IMCA line.

People who have had experience of our service have told us:

The advocate is very reliable, professional and provides an excellent service to my son. This enables me to focus my energy on our mother-son relationship and have more quality time. I also feel the advocate puts across how my son feels about things and what his priorities are. You provide an excellent service. Thank you. – Parent

It has been really good having an advocate involved in ‘Colin’s’ life. He has become a lot more confident in speaking out. I feel that we understand better what ‘Colin’ really wants and he really understands his options and is making informed decisions. The support from his advocate has helped ensure ‘Colin’ is central – Social Worker
