Total Voice Northamptonshire

VoiceAbility Total Voice Northamptonshire LogoTotal Voice is an advocacy service providing independent advocacy for people aged over 18.

They support people who use adult mental health care services in Northamptonshire with issues about mental health and social care.

Statutory Advocacy

Independent Mental Health Advocacy (IMHA):

We support people who have been detained under certain sections of the Mental Health Act, or are on a community Treatment Order. We help them understand their rights and support them to challenge their treatment if they feel it is not appropriate for them.

Independent Mental Capacity Advocacy (IMCA):

We work with people who have been assessed as lacking capacity and who do not have family or friends who are appropriate to speak up for them. This work is always about decisions around serious medical treatment or changes in long term accommodation.

An IMCA can also support where there are concerns regarding Safeguarding or care reviews.

You can find out more about our IMCA services in our IMCA section.  This also includes details on how to make a referral to our dedicated IMCA referral line.

Mental Capacity Advocacy Paid Representative:

Within this service, we would represent a person who has been deprived of their liberty after a decision has been made to do so in their best interests. We would ensure that the reasons for the deprivation are still relevant and that any measures that are put in place to support the deprivation are being carried out.

Generic or Community Advocacy

We support people to:service users with an advocate

  • Speak up for themselves. If they do not feel confident to speak up themselves, we would work with them to clearly understand their wishes, so that we could represent them
  • Have choice and control over their lives and make decisions
  • Understand their rights and responsibilities

If someone we worked with lacked capacity, we would talk to all those involved in the person’s life and speak up about what might be in that person’s interests.
