Many of our resources are written by people with learning disabilities or mental health problems who have direct experience of the issues covered. Others are written by our staff, drawing on their own experience, the latest legislation and Best Practice.

My Life, My Budget - SOLD OUT

My Life, My Budget is a fun and interactive board game for people with learning difficulties and other disabilities who want to know more about Personal or Individual Budgets. What’s more, it can also be used by people who have mental health problems and anyone who receives social care services.

Next Steps... A How 2 Guide

Price: Free - available for all as a downloadable pdf

Our Next Steps is a user-led model of self-direction, self-advocacy and fulfillment. Our teams of people with disabilities decide what skills would best enable them to get the most out of their lives. Next Steps then builds courses around those needs.

This toolkit will enable you to set up your own user-led programme, with helpful guides and step by step instructions along the way.  To make it as easy as possible to use our learnings for your own project, our toolkit is available as a downloadable pdf.

How 2... Get Into Work

The Next Steps How 2... Get Into Work tool kit has been written to enable other professionals to deliver the successful Next Steps Into Work course.

The course is split into modules which include thinking about what you like doing, finding out what jobs are out there, application forms and CVs, interviews and top tips to be a great employee.

Contents: A guidance manual for tutors and 8 copies of the accessible booklet that follows the course modules and was written by people with learning disabilities who have completed the course. Further copies of the booklets are available on request.

How 2... Travel in Your Local Area

The Next Steps How 2... Travel in Your Local Area tool kit has been written to enable other professionals to deliver the Road Safety / Local Travel module of the successful Next Steps Travel Training course.

All of the people who attended the course in 2007 say that they feel much more confident with road safety, finding their way around and travelling independently.

Contents: A guidance manual for tutors and 5 copies of the accessible booklet that follows the course modules and was written by people with learning disabilities who have completed the course. Further copies of the booklets are available on request.

Big Ballot Box

Our Parliament and Youth Parliament projects have been highly successful across the country.

They enable people with learning disabilities to:

• Meet face to face with decision makers
• Get involved with decisions involving local services
• Stand up and be counted
• Make new friends
• Practice listening to others and feeding back on others views

We wanted to share our learnings on how to set up a Youth Parliament in new areas. So we have put together a toolkit which will give you all the information you and your Youth MPs might need to start one.

Epilepsy and Me

Making decisions: the Independent Mental Capacity Advocate (IMCA) Service

This booklet was commissioned by the Department of Health and written by our head of IMCA service following our IMCA pilot project in 2006-07.

It contains clear information on the role of an Independent Mental Capacity Advocate, the requirements of professionals under the Mental Capacity Act and information on Best Interest decisions.
