Wakefield Autism Voice for Everyone (WAVE)

If you are on the autistic spectrum, live in Wakefield and would like to come along to a support group then WAVE could be what you are looking for.

WAVE is the only dedicated support group in Wakefield for people with autism and usually runs on a Thursday afternoon, every two weeks.

If you want to find out more about the group, please contact Helen Silverwood on the details above.

Man drinking a cup of teaPeople come along for a variety of reasons. You can:

  • Meet new friends
  • Talk about issues
  • Share experiences
  • Get information and advice

and, if you want to join the group you:

  • don’t have to have a formal diagnosis
  • can drop into the group for a few minutes, or come for the whole time
  • can come along every time, or when you feel like it
  • can come on your own, or bring someone with you,  if you prefer, such as carer/friend/relative
  • We usually meet every 2 weeks on a Thursday in central Wakefield, between 1.30 and 3.30pm.

I want to come along. What do I need to do now?

There are two ways to join the group:

1 - You, or someone you know, can complete the form below, email it to us and we will contact you.
Send the form to us at helen.silverwood@voiceability.org and let us know how you prefer to be contacted. We can email you, give you a call, or text you if you prefer.

2 - OR If you prefer not to complete the form, get in touch with Helen on the details above and she will contact you to answer any questions you might have and take your details.

Before you go to the meeting for the first time

Helen facilitates the group and is part of the Total Voice team at VoiceAbility. She can arrange to meet with you, somewhere you are comfortable, before you join the group. This is to:

  • give you an overview of the group
  • talk through any questions you may have and
  • discuss any additional needs you want to mention

We can also meet you at the meeting venue at a time that suits you, so you can see where the meeting takes place.

Helen SilverwoodIt is sometimes useful for Helen to speak to a professional if you have complex needs in order to make sure that we support you in the best way possible. Helen will only do this if you say she can and tell her the name of the professional you want her to contact.

If you want to find out more, please contact Helen on 01924 688032 / 07770 012989 or helen.silverwood@voiceability.org

I really like it here - I feel safe. This is the first time I've felt like I've had any purpose to my life - you guys are an inspiration.
