Working for us

At VoiceAbility, we believe that everyone has the right to fulfil their potential, and to be able to live a full life in the way they want. We believe everyone should be able to use their strengths, gifts and enthusiasms, and not be held back by lack of opportunity, access or power.

As a rights and voice organisation, we aim to work with people in a way that makes them feel valued, understood and empowered. We try to work this way internally too, with our own staff.

I’ve faced quite a bit of discrimination in the past, and I’ve never felt so welcome in an organisation.

T, advocate

Disability Confident Employer

As a disability-confident employer, we will interview all candidates who disclose a disability in their application and meet all the essential criteria from the Person Specification.

Living Wage employer

VoiceAbility has been certified by the Living Wage Foundation as a Living Wage employer. We believe our staff deserve a wage which meets their everyday needs.

Mindful Employer

VoiceAbility has signed the Mindful Employer charter, committing to support mental health at work.

When we meet as a team across London, there’s a lot of laughter now. There’s a positive support network there.

Denise, manager

What benefits do staff get?

All roles receive these benefits:

  • 28 days annual leave plus bank holidays (pro-rata for part-time colleagues)
  • 5% employer pension & 3% employee contribution
  • Salary sacrifice pension scheme
  • Separate Life Assurance Cover
  • Staff discount scheme including retail discounts, entertainment, holidays, gym membership etc
  • 24/7 Employee Assistance programme

How are staff supported to work remotely?

VoiceAbility doesn’t have regional offices, except in a small number of cases. Everyone works from home, with travel as required. When you need to travel for work, expenses will be paid (mileage or public transport costs).

All equipment required for your job will be supplied to you, including a mobile phone and laptop, and any other equipment needed for your role. VoiceAbility uses Microsoft Teams for meetings

The Lone Alert system is used by all staff to ensure people can work safely – at home, in hospitals and care settings, and in other people’s homes.

What other support is available?

Learning and development

All employees have access to the Learning Hub, with a mix of instructor-led and online courses.

This includes professional development courses for advocates, led by High-Level Practitioners; awareness workshops on disability and LGBTQ+ people; and management training to develop current and potential managers to improve their skills.

Employee Representative Groups

We all bring different experiences and challenges to work. At VoiceAbility, our staff networks allow people across all our teams to share experiences, get support, and feed back on positive change people would like to see in VoiceAbility.

These are the current networks:

  • Carers
  • Disability
  • Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
  • Health, safety and wellbeing
  • Menopause
  • Neurodiversity
  • Connections: people working with autistic people and people with learning disabilities
  • Salesforce User Involvement

Communities of Practice

Anyone working as a specialist advocate can be part of a Community of Practice: an online forum which fosters sharing of good practice and supportive communication with colleagues.

These communities allow people from across the organisation to ask questions, seek support with challenging situations, and draw on the experience of others outside their own regional teams.
