Community Advocacy

VoiceAbility offer independent community advocacy for vulnerable adults in Wakefield, supporting you to speak up about what you want and making sure your voice is heard.

Who can get a Community Advocate?

We represent and support people who live in Wakefield and who have a learning disability or autistic spectrum condition or, are receiving mental health services.

Your advocate can support you when you have decisions to make and you do not feel you are being listened to or you do not feel confident raising issues yourself.

This service is for people aged 18 and over. We can also offer support to 14-17 year olds who are in transition to Adult Services.

What will your advocate do?

We can support you to:

  • Speak out at meetings or to professionals
  • Find information so you can make choices and sort out problems
  • Know about your rights and make sure they are respected
  • Make difficult decisions
  • Make a complaint if you are not happy about something

Through individual and group mentoring sessions, we will develop plans with you based on what you want to do. We will work with you to develop skills and gain the confidence to live the life you want.

How to get an Advocate

We are happy to take referrals from anybody who wants to use our service, professionals, friends or family members and other voluntary organisations.
