DFN Project Search: transforming the lives of young adults
VoiceAbility joined young adults and their parents in Glasgow to share how advocacy can support young people with learning disabilities and autistic young people.
95% of young people with learning disabilities and autistic young people who are known to adult services become unemployed as adults.
DFN Project Search is an organisation which supports them to transition into work. Last year, it supported 1900 young adults to find employment.

VoiceAbility joined their event at the Glasgow City Chambers in May 2023, to help young people find out more about how benefits advocacy can support them with becoming more independent.
Advocates Linda and Emily met with the attendees, and shared Easy Read information about benefits advocacy.
“This was a great opportunity to share the services that VoiceAbility and advocacy offer. I chatted about the Social Security Benefits that we offer support with,’ said Linda.
“A few parents were not aware that Personal Independence Payment (PIP) was changing over to Adult Disability Payment (ADP), and they said they would be getting in touch when the process starts for them.”
We had a few people interested in the Job Start Payment benefit, they were pleasantly surprised that this funding was available and said that in this climate it would be very much appreciated.
Also attending were Elizabeth and Robert from Glasgow Helps, which links and signposts people in Glasgow to other services.
