MP Kirsty Blackman sees the impact of our outreach work at the Tillydrone Community Flat
Tillydrone Community Flat is a hub for community activity, offering free, vital support to residents.
Services include adult learning classes, complementary therapy, a registered crèche, and essential facilities such as laundry and computers. The flat also provides advocacy on social security and housing issues.
Since October 2024, advocate Alicja Mlek has been providing advocacy support to Aberdeen residents every Thursday at the flat, helping them access Social Security Scotland benefits.
On Thursday, 20 February 2025, Kirsty Blackman — Scottish National Party MP for Aberdeen North — visited the flat to see first-hand the positive impact of our outreach work and to understand the purpose and importance of our efforts.
Tillydrone Community Development Worker Fiona Young commented at the visit: “The impact Voiceability Scotland has had on our ability to deliver top level services to our service users has been incalculable.
“We are a very busy grassroots charity with a large service user base, many of whom have complex health conditions. Alicja’s knowledge of the disability application process, in addition to her kindness and empathy, has been of immense value to all those she has supported and has led to some absolutely brilliant outcomes.
“We are delighted and thankful to have Voiceability Scotland as a valued partner.”
Due to increasingly high demand for our services, we’re pleased to welcome our new advocate, Ashley Digan, who will also be visiting once a week.
