How does the service work?
The parents advocate can support you to:
- have your voice heard
- take part in the decisions being made about your child
- ask the social worker any questions you may have about why the local authority are concerned about your child’s safety, if you don’t feel able to ask for yourself
- prepare for meetings with social workers and other professionals
- speak up and put your point of view across at child protection conferences and core group meetings
- be fully involved when plans are being made about your child
- feel empowered and more confident to participate
- make appropriate challenges if you disagree with what the social worker or other professionals are saying
- remember what was said and agreed at a meeting or what you are being asked to do, so you can plan what to do next
- find or access legal advice
- request reasonable adjustments for the meetings
