VoiceAbility | Volunteering

Make a difference in your local community, and help us to support everyone to have a voice that counts.

As a volunteer, you could help people know more about our services, use your lived experience to support someone, or play a crucial role in making our service more accessible.

After years of volunteering, I feel that there is no better thing to do than help someone through challenging times.

Daniel, VoiceAbility volunteer

What do we look for in our volunteers?

Volunteers with VoiceAbility often have a personal interest in disability, mental health, human rights or social care, but this is not a requirement. We care more about the values you share with us than your experience or skills.

You can volunteer as little, or as much as you want. Some roles will require more commitment than others. When you complete the form to get in touch, we can talk through the roles and your own availability together.

For most roles, you’ll need to have at least 2 hours per week to spare, and you’ll need to be able to commit to volunteering for at least 6 months. You also need to be over 18 years old to volunteer.

If you can’t complete the form, please call the helpline on 0300 303 1660 to arrange for the volunteering team to call you back.

What do you get from volunteering with us?

As a volunteer, we’ll provide you with complete training and shadowing with an experienced member of our team before you start.

As a volunteer, you can:

  • grow your confidence and communication skills
  • build up personal and professional experience in health and social care
  • develop skills in key health and social care approaches of accessibility, confidentiality and empathy
  • add experience to your CV
  • know you’re making a difference to people’s lives

What volunteer roles are available near me?

Different volunteer roles with VoiceAbility are offered in different locations in England and Scotland. Visit the roles you’re interested in above to find out what’s available near where you live.
